Vegetarianism

Most vegetarians avoid all meat, fish, and poultry, although individual styles can vary. There are three major types of vegetarians:

  • Lacto-ovo-vegetarians eat milk, cheese, yogurt, and eggs.
  • Lacto-vegetarians eat milk, cheese, and yogurt, but avoid eggs and food containing eggs.
  • Vegans avoid eating all animal products.

Benefits of Choosing a Vegetarian Diet

  • A lower intake of saturated fatty acids.
  • Higher intake of dietary fiber.
  • Higher intake of antioxidant nutrients

Complications That Can Be Associated with Vegetarianism

  • Iron deficient anemia.
  • Vitamin B12 deficiency.
  • Vitamin D deficiency or Rickets.
